A New York City mom has been arrested for threatening to blow up her daughter’s high school after being told the teen flunked a statewide exam needed to graduate.
Police say Karen Shearon, 48, made the threat to a guidance counselor after being informed her daughter failed a Regents Exam, the Staten Island Advance reported.
“I am going to blow up the school,” the paper quoted Shearon as telling the guidance counselor from Staten Island’s Susan Wagner High School, citing court papers.
The newspaper said the guidance counselor had called Shearon Tuesday. Cops say the Staten Island woman admitted receiving the call.
On Friday, Shearon appeared before a judge after being charged with misdemeanor aggravated harassment charge. She was released without bail.
CBS New York said the woman left the courthouse with her coat covering her face.
The station said Shearon denied making the bomb threat and called the teachers at her daughter's school “liars.”
In order to graduate from high school, students in New York State have to pass a Regents Exam in five subjects: English, Math, Science, Global History and US History and government.
