WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A suburban New York City mayor accused of slamming a door on his wife's hand has filed for divorce a month before he's scheduled to go on trial.
Adam Bradley is mayor of White Plains, which is just north of Manhattan and is one of the nation's top suburban office and retail centers. He said in a statement Wednesday he's decided to divorce "after exhausting every other recourse."
He requests privacy, but the divorce is likely to come up in his criminal case.
Bradley is accused of throwing hot tea at his wife, Fumiko (FOO'-mee-koh) Bradley. He's also charged with harassment and witness tampering. The 48-year-old mayor has pleaded not guilty and resisted calls to resign.
He was arrested in February, two months into his term.
A call to his wife's lawyer hasn't been returned.
