OMAHA, Neb. – Some Nebraska law enforcement officers are frustrated that their agencies have to bear the cost of jailing and prosecuting people for drug violations tied to Colorado's legalized marijuana.
The Omaha World-Herald reports that western Nebraska agencies are increasingly busy because of cases involving Colorado pot.
Deuel County Sheriff Adam Hayward says many officers in the region have come to believe that Colorado should shoulder some of the cost. But Hayward says political leaders in Lincoln don't appear to want to get involved, and he's not sure what Nebraska law enforcement can do.
Marijuana use is legal in Colorado, but it remains an illicit drug under federal law and in all seven states that border Colorado.
