Mother in custody after infant stabbed in Baltimore
BALTIMORE – Baltimore police say a mother has stabbed her infant daughter in the chest and neck at a social services building.
The 8-month-old baby is listed in stable condition and the mother is in custody.
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the stabbing occurred just before 10 a.m. Tuesday at a Department of Social Services building. Police department spokesman Det. Donny Moses says the woman used a long kitchen knife in the stabbing. Moses says she will likely be taken for a mental health evaluation.
Detectives and child abuse investigators are continuing to investigate.
Pat Hines, a spokesman for the state Department of Human Resources, says the department is praying that the child will be OK but declined further comment because of an ongoing police investigation.
