The mother of a soldier killed during the Fort Hood shooting rampage says she'd always looked forward to seeing who her son would become.

Cheryll Pearson sobbed as she testified Tuesday during the trial of Maj. Nidal Hasan, who was convicted last week of killing 13 people at the Texas military base. Prosecutors are now trying to convince jurors to sentence Hasan to death.

Pearson began crying when shown a photo of she and her son, Pfc. Michael Pearson, hugging at his graduation.

Pearson says her family, "always wanted to see who he was going to become," but that the shooting took that away from them. Pearson says she learned after her son was killed that he'd planned to marry his high school sweetheart.
