Missouri mom sentenced to 15 years for selling 12-year-old daughter for sadomasochistic sex

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri mother has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for selling her 12-year-old daughter for sadomasochistic sex.

The U.S. Attorney's office in Kansas City says in a news release that the 46-year-old woman was also ordered during sentencing Wednesday to pay $200,000 in restitution to cover her daughter's counseling.

Their names are not being released to protect the daughter's identity.

The woman and co-defendant Todd Barkau pleaded guilty last November to charges of commercial sex trafficking of a minor. Barkau awaits sentencing.

Prosecutors say Barkau began training the girl in 2000, when she was 12, to have sadomasochistic sex with him and others. He later set up a website through which the girl was offered to perform sex acts for cash or gifts.
