A 62-year-old Florida woman who was reported missing by her family was found Tuesday submerged in mud up to her neck, MyFoxTampaBay.com reports.
Kathleen Shino was discovered Tuesday afternoon trapped in a dense thicket of tangled brush and tree roots, known as mangroves, not far from her Pasco County home, according to the station.
The woman, who was reported missing on Sunday, was found after someone heard cries for help coming from the swampy area.
Rescue crews had to clear away the brush with a chainsaw to get to Shino, who was transported to a nearby hospital where she is listed in stable condition.
"She is the strongest woman I know," her daughter, Kristi Fusco, told the station. "Nothing gets her down. Life gets you down but she gets right back up, so I'm not surprised that she had the strength (to stay alive). I'm just very grateful we got to this point with the ending that we have."
Fusco said her mother is becoming more and more alert of what happened.
"She's starting to respond to us, not verbally yet but by shaking her head" she said. "That's good, and she does recognize us."
