An Upper Peninsula woman is in hot water after collecting thousands of dollars from booze makers in a rebate scam that involved a computer and printer.

Carol Rae Vitton was charged last week with mail fraud. She’s accused of creating more than 700 sales receipts to get $9,000 in rebates.

Defense attorney Karl Numinen says a guilty plea is planned in federal court in Marquette. He says the 59-year-old Ironwood woman is remorseful and has pledged to repay the money.

He declined to comment on Vitton’s possible sentence. The scheme started in September 2010 and lasted a year.
