HARTFORD, Conn. – A former maintenance worker at a Connecticut hospital who shot two supervisors after being disciplined in 2012 has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Sixty-six-year-old Victor Valcarcel (val-KAHR'-sehl) was sentenced Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to felony assault charges in February.
The two victims are Robert Barucci and Lynn Trask. They were seriously injured in the shootings at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain.
A police report said Valcarcel told investigators he was disciplined after refusing to accept extra work duties, then went home to get a gun and returned to shoot Barucci and Trask.
The shootings sparked a large police response including SWAT teams. Valcarcel was arrested within an hour at his home less than 2 miles from the hospital.
