JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man accused of making a bomb threat at a Florida airport has been formally charged in federal court.
Zeljko Causevic made his first appearance Tuesday after a grand jury indicted him on a charge of conveying false or misleading information. He faces up to five years in prison.
Authorities say Causevic — a U.S. citizen who is originally from Bosnia — entered Jacksonville International Airport on Oct. 1 and said that he had a bomb. The camouflage backpack he was carrying contained a small luggage scale, a couple of batteries, a microchip and a cellphone. But the scare was enough to evacuate the airport and strand travelers on planes on the tarmac for hours.
Causevic's next hearing is set for Oct. 29. He is being held without bail.
A message left with the federal public defender's office wasn't immediately returned.
