A Massachusetts man faces federal charges for allegedly sending bomb threats to several schools.

Anthony Rae, of Stoughton, is accused of sending the threats to schools in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Illinois and North Carolina.

Charges previously filed in state court against the 24-year-old Rae were dismissed Wednesday and he was taken into federal custody.

A criminal complaint says Rae used three different email accounts to send the threats, which allegedly began a year ago against a Chicago elementary school and several public schools in Norwood, Massachusetts.

Authorities say Rae also sent a threat in April to ITT Technical Institute in Norwood, where he was attending at the time. Other alleged threats were received by Rhode Island College and North Carolina State University.

Rae's attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
