MANCHESTER, N.H. – Knitters in one New Hampshire town have come up with a way to make a small difference in the lives of people in their community. They knitted 400 scarves to donate, and their stash was empty in just one day.
The initiative started at Longmeadow Congregational Church in Auburn and has spread since its inception two years ago. The reverend there wanted to inspire parishioners to give back in ways other than monetary donations.
Hundreds of scarves were hung on a Manchester park fence and were gone the next day. The group is already working on next year's donations.
One knitter said she knew the project was for a good cause, but it became even more meaningful when she heard the stories of people who were taking the scarves.
