A federal judge has thrown out the rape and murder convictions of two former sailors who claimed police coerced their confessions 20 years ago.

Judge John A. Gibney Jr. said Monday that he will give prosecutors 60 days to decide whether they want to retry Danial Williams and Joseph Dick, two of the "Norfolk Four."

The two other members are Derek Tice and Eric Wilson. Tice had his conviction overturned in 2009. Wilson, who was convicted only of the rape, has been unable to persuade courts to do the same because he already completed his sentence.

Williams, Dick and Tice were still on parole when they challenged their convictions.
