Attorneys for a 14-year-old Osage boy suspected of killing his mother plan to use an insanity and diminished responsibility defense.

The Globe Gazette in Mason City says the attorneys filed an intent notice earlier this week in Mitchell County juvenile court. They cited two evaluations conducted with the teenager.

The boy is accused of shooting to death his 37-year-old mother in March. Authorities say he may have tried to sexually abuse her.

A hearing on whether to waive jurisdiction of the case to adult court will be held on Thursday.

The hearing, which will be in juvenile court, is closed to the public.

The Associated Press generally doesn't identify juveniles accused in a crime.
