The family of a 15-year-old Martinsville West Middle School student who was shot twice in the abdomen at the school says he has been released from a hospital but has a "very long road to recovery."

WRTV-TV reports that a statement released Thursday through the family's lawyer says Chance Jackson was released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis this week. It says he's able to speak to his family and is walking around as part of his recovery.

Jackson was shot twice in the stomach on March 25. Fifteen-year-old shooting suspect Michael Phelps was waived Monday into adult court. He faces six charges, including attempted murder and aggravated battery. His attorney has entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
