Delta strengthened back to a Category 2 storm on Thursday and will likely bring hurricane conditions and "life-threatening" storm surge along portions of the northern Gulf Coast on Friday.

As of 2 p.m. EDT, the storm was located about 370 miles south-southeast of Cameron, La., with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph -- up from 90 mph on Wednesday night, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Delta is expected to produce up to 15 inches of rain for southwest into south-central Louisiana. Residents in the state are fleeing for the sixth time in the Atlantic hurricane season, as the storm is projected to make landfall in the U.S. on Friday.
