A hiker found alive after enduring nine days in the California wilderness with no food and broken bones says she regrets her decision to leave her group and return to their base camp alone.

Miyuki Harwood said in a statement Tuesday that she became lost in the dark and fell off a cliff; she landed on both feet.

The next day she realized she couldn't stand on either leg. She broke her left leg, right ankle and sustained a compression fracture to her spine.

She says that with each passing day she grew colder.

The 62-year-old Folsom woman survived by crawling for two days to a stream. The search by dozens of rescuers ended Saturday when they heard her blowing a whistle.

Harwood underwent surgery and expects to go through many more surgeries.
