Hero Florida School Guard Cries When He Sees Survivor

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A school security chief who shot a gunman at a Florida school board meeting says he still cries every time he sees the superintendent whose life he's credited with saving.

Mike Jones told the NBC "Today" show Friday he thought the superintendent was dead after gunman Clay Duke opened fire from just a few feet away at the meeting Tuesday in Panama City.

Other school board members dove for cover. Jones shot and wounded Duke, who then took his own life. The superintendent, Bill Husfelt, was not injured.

Jones told NBC it was a miracle the superintendent wasn't killed. He said that "every time I see him now I start crying."

The 57-year-old Jones is a former policeman. He said he wants to forget the showdown and get back to doing charity work for Christmas.
