Grocery Workers Union Calls off Arizona Boycott

PHOENIX -- The union representing many grocery workers in the nation has called off its boycott of Arizona over the state's new immigration law.

The United Food and Commercial Workers International announced the decision Thursday. It cited a federal judge's late July decision to put much of the new law on hold.

The union joined other groups, including immigration rights activists, in calling for a boycott of the state after Gov. Jan Brewer signed the measure into law in April.

UFCW Local 99 president Jim McLaughlin says in a statement it is time to "tone it down" and have a reasoned discussion on immigration law reform.
