Doctors say a German-born man accused of killing his much-older wife in Washington's fashionable Georgetown neighborhood has grown increasingly anxious and remains incompetent for trial.

Albrecht Muth is charged with killing 91-year-old Viola Drath, a German journalist, last August. He's being treated at a psychiatric hospital.

The case is on hold amid concerns about his mental competency.

The 48-year-old Muth has claimed to be an Iraqi Army brigadier general and that his wife was killed in an Iranian hit job. Prosecutors say those claims are false.

The latest evaluation says Muth has become "increasingly anxious" as more experts have come to see him. Doctors say he's rejected their opinion that he's delusional, and that though he's currently incompetent to stand trial, his condition could improve.
