A man accused of trying to abduct a 7-year-old from the toy aisle at a Wal-Mart could make his first appearance Friday.

Thomas Woods, 25, was arrested after surveillance video captured him holding Brittney Baxter as she kicked and struggled to get away from him.

"He just grabbed me and I was screaming and kicking and he dropped me and ran. I was kicking him as hard as I can," Baxter told FOX 5.

Authorities say Woods was on state probation under the Department of Corrections as part of a 2004 prison sentence for voluntary manslaughter at the time of the alleged attempted abduction, MyFoxAtlanta.com reports.

"My school taught me like when somebody tries to get you, you try to get away and then get somebody you trust," Baxter told MyFoxAtlanta.com.

"She's a hero today. I feel this story could have went another way if she hadn't done what she was taught to do," Chief Keith Pesnell of the Bremen Police Department told MyFoxAtlanta.com.

Once out of Woods' arms Baxter said she ran to her mother who was shopping for food in the store.

Woods is currently being held in the Haralson County Jail.
