A man who travels the country to document the final resting places of poets has reached a milestone in Alabama.

Dead Poets Society of America founder Walter Skold said his visit Friday to the grave of Sun Ra in Birmingham marked his 500th site. Sun Ra was a musical composer and performer who claimed to be from Saturn.

Skold said every poet is unique but this was the first one to claim to be from another planet.

While in Birmingham, Skold read Dudley Randall's "Ballad of Birmingham" at the memorial to four girls killed in a church bombing.

The 54-year-old Maine man is in the midst of a 10-week trip to visit 90 graves, mostly in the Deep South. On Saturday, he was attending an event in Atlanta.
