FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A South Florida prosecutor has urged a jury to recommend the death penalty for Anthony "Little Tony" Ferrari for the 2001 gangland-style slaying of a well-known businessman.
Prosecutor Brian Cavanagh said Tuesday the murder of Konstantinos "Gus" Boulis was coldly planned and that he was killed so Ferrari would continue to get money from the SunCruz Casinos gambling fleet. Ferrari's attorney argued that Ferrari should get life in prison without parole.
Ferrari's two children both testified in support of their father at Tuesday's hearing. A psychologist testified that Ferrari doesn't suffer from any mental problems.
The jury's recommendation is non-binding and a circuit judge will impose the final sentence on the 56-year-old Ferrari.
Boulis founded the Miami Subs restaurant chain.
