The FBI says it has removed a Malaysian bomb maker from its list of most wanted terrorists after confirming his death in a January raid in the southern Philippines.

An FBI statement says the death of Zulkifli bin Hir was officially confirmed through a review of forensics and information from Philippine law enforcement. He's also known as Marwan.

Commandos involved in the Jan. 25 raid had chopped off his right index finger and took photos of his body as evidence of his death.

The FBI earlier said DNA analysis suggested that Marwan had been killed, but more tests were needed for confirmation.

Marwan was among the last few known surviving militants of his generation of al Qaida-inspired extremists who survived anti-terror crackdowns in Asia following the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
