A 40-year-old former counselor at Ascension Episcopal School in Lafayette has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for trying to entice a teen-aged girl to engage in criminal sexual activity.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley says U.S. District Judge Richard T. Haik sentenced Allison Hargrave on Wednesday and ordered her to pay $279,454 in restitution to the victim. She faced up to life in prison.

Hargrave admitted having had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl in late 2009 and early 2010. The then-high school freshman was being counseled by Hargrave when the alleged relationship began.

Finley says the case "reflects the serious consequences and fallout of individuals who sexually abuse minors."
