A new addition to Ellis Island's Immigration Museum is having its grand opening next week after numerous delays following the destruction of Superstorm Sandy.

The Daily Record reports (http://dailyre.co/1Bm3CNl ) the Wednesday opening of the Peopling of America Center marks the end of the second phase of construction for Phelps Construction Group.

The Boonton, New Jersey, company spent several years before and after the storm renovating, restoring and adding onto the site's museum.

Preconstruction on the two-phase project began in 2011, but development halted in October 2012 when Sandy damaged the island. The devastation closed the island to the public and kept workers away for about a year.

Company president Doug Phelps says he's worked with the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation before and hopes to again in the future.
