After a week beneath the murky Long Island Sound, a capsized cabin cruiser was brought to the surface yesterday — hopefully along with clues about why it sank and killed three children.
It was a spooky moment — a single, white life ring floated around the deserted yacht just as it reached the surface.
"We had a successful rescue of the Kandi Won," said Nassau County Police Detective Vinny Garcia said after the two-day salvage operation was complete.
About 30 gawkers watched and snapped pictures from the dock at the Oyster Bay Marine Center.
Probers are "giving the boat a cursory look," Garcia said, and then it will be placed on a flatbed truck and driven to East Rockaway for a thorough inspection.
Investigators will go over every inch, looking for any structural damage or any failed equipment that might provide clues.
They will also check to see if the proper number of life vests were available — the law requires one for each of the 27 people on board.
