NEW YORK – Former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik (KEHR'-ihk) has been released from a federal prison.
A U.S. Bureau of Prisons spokesman says Kerik left the Cumberland facility in western Maryland on Tuesday.
He pleaded guilty to false statement and other charges. They stemmed from allegations that, while a city official, he knowingly paid on only $30,000 for renovations worth between $165,000 and $255,000.
Kerik has about five months left on his four-year sentence.
It wasn't immediately clear whether he'd serve out the time in home confinement or a halfway house. The Daily News of New York reported he went to his Franklin Lakes, N.J., home.
Kerik had to testify in a perjury trial related to the allegations late last year.
