Delaware State University officials say three people have been shot at a student event.

The News Journal (http://delonline.us/1cJbMJJ ) reports that university president Harry L. Williams said in a release that the shooting happened at about 8 p.m. Saturday at a school-sanctioned fraternity and sorority cookout.

Officials said the three people were taken to Kent General Hospital in Dover and are stable. Their names have not been released, and DSU spokesman Carlos Holmes said he didn't know whether the people were Delaware State students.

The newspaper reported that the shooting was on the main campus during Field Day, which began at 4 p.m.

Holmes said students have been told to go to the dormitories and non-students to leave campus.

The shooting is being investigated by numerous law enforcement agencies.
