MILFORD, Conn. – Connecticut police have obtained a warrant for the arrest of a man on charges he killed a pregnant woman nearly a decade ago.
Prosecutor Kevin Lawlor said Friday that 50-year-old Luis Antonio Rodriguez will be charged with murder and felony murder in connection with the death of 28-year-old Kelsey Monahon, who was beaten and strangled. She was bound, gagged and unconscious when her husband found her in their Milford apartment on May 25, 2001.
Lawlor said Rodriguez is in federal prison in Oklahoma on an unrelated case involving weapons. Lawlor said he did not believe Rodriguez had a lawyer yet.
Lawlor said the felony murder charges are for burglary and robbery. Bond for Rodriguez is set at $2 million and he will be arraigned in Milford Superior Court at a date to be determined after the warrant is served, Lawlor said.
Lawlor thanked police and prosecutors for working tirelessly on the case for almost 10 years.
"I am gratified that we can begin the process of seeking justice on behalf of the victim and her family in court," Lawlor said.
