Clayton police to release more details into death investigation of Missouri auditor

Police in the St. Louis suburb of Clayton are expected to release details of their investigation into the death of Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich.

A Tuesday afternoon news conference is planned.

Schweich shot himself Feb. 26 at his home in Clayton. His death shook Missouri's Republican Party. Schweich was seeking the GOP nomination for governor in 2016.

Schweich had told an Associated Press reporter by phone minutes before his death that he was ready to go public with allegations that the chairman of the Missouri Republican Party had told donors that Schweich was Jewish. Schweich was Christian but had Jewish ancestry. He perceived the remarks as anti-Semitism.

Schweich's spokesman, Spence Jackson, fatally shot himself last month. He left a note saying he couldn't bear the prospect of being jobless.
