Usually it's zombies causing a disaster, not saving the day.

A Times Square haunted house promoter in full zombie makeup is being credited with rescuing a cat that disappeared from his Long Island owner's home two years ago.

Jeremy Zelkowitz says he spotted Disaster the cat crossing 42nd street early Saturday morning.

Zelkowitz dropped Disaster off at a nearby animal hospital, where staff scanned a microchip that had been implanted in the cat. The chip identified his last owner as New York City police officer Jimmy Helliesen (HEL-ih-suhn).

Helliesen said Thursday he adopted Disaster two years ago, but the cat fled after six months. Helliesen doesn't know how Disaster ended up in Manhattan, saying his journey must have been "quite an adventure."
