A teenage boy and his father were killed within four hours of each other in separate freeway collisions along a California interstate, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The 16-year-old boy, whose named has not been released, was killed Thursday while riding with his mother in a Toyota pickup truck on Interstate 8 in eastern San Diego County, according to the newspaper.

The teen reportedly died when the vehicle, driven by his mother, Natali Sambhi, veered off the highway and rolled, possibly due to a flat tire. He was thrown from the vehicle and died instantly.

About four hours later, the boy's father, Sumil Sambhi, was killed in a head-on collision on the same interstate. He was driving the wrong way on the freeway, according to authorities.

The newspaper reports that the California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident as a possible suicide. The father, reportedly distraught over his son, blamed his wife for his death.
