Busy U.S. Border Crossing to Reopen After Collapse

San Diego – U.S. Customs and Border Protection says America's busiest border crossing will fully reopen Saturday, three days after scaffolding fell on more than a dozen cars and injured 11 travelers and construction workers.

The agency said Friday that that it has reopened 16 of 24 U.S.-bound vehicle lanes at the San Ysidro port of entry from Tijuana, Mexico, to San Diego. The remaining eight lanes are expected to open by Saturday morning.

All U.S.-bound traffic was halted Wednesday after scaffolding installed to protect cars from overhead construction collapsed onto eight lanes.

A construction worker was seriously hurt, and 10 others were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, including a pregnant woman.
Mexico-bound traffic was never interrupted.
