A New York City judge has given Bernard Madoff's former secretary a few more days to make bail.

Annette Bongiorno is currently under house arrest in Florida. She had faced having to surrender Thursday and being locked up in New York while waiting for trial.

But Judge Laura Taylor Swain in Manhattan told defense lawyers Thursday that Bongiorno now has until Tuesday to make $5 million bail.

Bongiorno is charged with helping Madoff cover up a multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme that made her wealthy and wiped out thousands of clients. Prosecutors have argued the 62-year-old defendant has the means to flee because she has stashed away untold millions in stolen investor money.

Madoff is serving a 150-year sentence.
