Authorities say drug dealers in NYC ceased sales on Jewish Sabbath

NEW YORK – New York City authorities say a drug crew observed the Jewish Sabbath each week while dealing prescription painkillers and heroin.

The city's Special Narcotic Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday that text messages sent to customers of the Brooklyn crew notified them that the operation was always closed for Shabbat.

Five men are charged in an indictment with using stolen prescription sheets and other illegal means to obtain 23,000 oxycodone pills with a street value of $460,000. They're also accused of distributing heroin with the name "DOB."

Investigators dubbed the investigation Only After Sundown.
