State police and the coroner are investigating the death of a man whose body was found frozen in the back yard of a western Pennsylvania residence, but who may have died of a beating.

Catherine Byers, of Mahaffey, tells the Indiana Gazette that troopers from the Punxsutawney barracks are treating the death of her brother, 28-year-old Christopher Brander, as a homicide.

Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker confirms Brander was found with injuries, but says toxicology tests to confirm his cause of death were pending.

Brander's body was frozen when it was found Friday in Glen Campbell, but a police spokesman did not immediately return a call for comment on the investigation Monday.

Byers says her brother had abused drugs and was recently dealing with drug traffickers.

Glen Campbell is about 55 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
