A total of four lawsuits have been filed against a former prosecutor and an Arizona sheriff known for his anti-illegal immigration tactics in the metropolitan Phoenix area.

Two former judges, a current judge and two Maricopa County officials claim that former county attorney Andrew Thomas and Sheriff Joe Arpaio targeted them in baseless criminal investigations to retaliate for court rulings and budget cuts.

The Arizona Republic reports that Superior Court Judge Gary Donahoe, former judges Barbara Mundell and Anna Baca, deputy county managers Sandi Wilson, and Susan Schuerman, an assistant to a county Supervisor, claim they suffered mental anguish, tarnished reputations and loss of consortium.

Most of the investigations have been dismissed, and a Navajo County attorney found many lacked merit.
