A jury has sentenced an Arizona man to death for murdering a family of five in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa in 2006.
Jurors returned the decision Thursday to put 34-year-old William Craig Miller to death after deliberating over the matter for about six hours.
The Phoenix jury heard arguments from Miller's defense attorney and a prosecutor all day Wednesday.
Miller's attorney told jurors that his client has bipolar disorder and had a troubled childhood and should be shown mercy.
Prosecutor Kristen Hoffmeyer began her arguments by showing gruesome photos of the bodies of all five victims, including two children. She described Miller as among the most cold-blooded of killers.
Miller was convicted of fatally shooting 30-year-old Steven Duffy; his brother, 18-year-old Shane Duffy; his girlfriend, 32-year-old Tammy Lovell; and Lovell's children, 15-year-old Cassandra and 10-year-old Jacob.
