A cannon from World War I is about to get an upgrade with the help of some Amish craftsmen who live in central Illinois.

The Kankakee Daily Journal reports American Legion officials from Manteno are taking the wheels from a historic cannon to an Amish buggy repair shop in Arcola.

Vern LaGesse is the finance officer for the Manteno American Legion Post. He says the shop is the only place that will repair the wheels, which are starting to deteriorate.

The cannon is on display at a park in Manteno. The repair shop first rebuilt the wooden and steel wheels in 2009. This year, just the outer wood will be replaced.

LaGesse says repairing the two 300-pound wheels will cost about $700 dollars.
