What happened aboard troubled flight?
MIAMI – An American Airlines flight headed to Los Angeles has landed safely in Miami after reporting a problem with cabin pressure.
Airlines spokeswoman Dori Alvarez says Flight 1585 landed at Miami International Airport about an hour after taking off from nearby Fort Lauderdale.
Alvarez said the pilot received an indication of a pressurization problem and decided to land to get that checked out.
Alvarez says there were 143 passengers and six crew members on board at the time. No injuries were reported.
Peter Goelz, the former director of the National Transportation Safety Board, told Fox New's "Happening Now" that 40 or 50 times a year a commercial airliner has to declare a pressurization emergency. He pointed out that days ago, a Delta flight had to drop to 10,000 feet due to a similar issue.
"It's more common than you might imagine," he said. He said the problem has the potential to be very serious and pilots could pass out.
