A hunter who was bitten in the head by a brown bear managed to escape the attack with only minor injuries to his scalp.

The Anchorage Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/KqGr9v ) that 48-year-old Rodd A. Moretz was attacked Saturday by the bear after he killed another bear on Kodiak Island.

The Fairbanks man told Alaska State Troopers that he was approaching a bear he had just shot, but his path took him near a bear den.

Troopers say that's when a brown bear came out, charged him and they rolled about 50 feet down a hill after colliding. Moretz was able to get away, and the bear went back to the den.

Moretz skinned the bear he killed and filed paperwork with the state before getting treatment at a hospital.
