BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – An Alabama woman says she's receiving public support for speaking out about the light sentence given to a man convicted of raping her.
Courtney Andrews said Wednesday she's heard from many people since going public about the sentencing of Austin Clem.
Andrews says some people have criticized her on social media, but she's heard from many more people who are on her side.
While The Associated Press typically doesn't identify sexual assault victims, Andrews says she is speaking publicly to raise awareness about what happened.
Jurors convicted the 25-year-old Clem in September on three rape charges for assaults dating back to when the 20-year-old Andrews was just 13.
A judge last week gave Clem a sentence that doesn't include any prison time.
Prosecutors are trying to overturn the sentence.
