An activist who was pushed down a flight of stairs during an anti-Donald Trump rally on Monday at Ohio State University says he hopes the charge against his assailant is dropped.
A video went viral showing 24-year-old OSU student Shane Stanton pushing Tim Adams during the anti-Trump rally.
The Columbus Dispatch reported that Stanton has Asperger's syndrome, which was suggested following the viral video.
Stanton's father confirmed Tuesday that his son does have the condition. Asperger's is a form of autism that often consists of difficulty with social interaction and impulse control.
Stanton was charged with misdemeanor assault. The Columbus Dispatch reported the student was released from jail after a $2,500 bond was posted.
OSU police haven't said whether the charge will be dropped.
