NOVATO, Calif. – Some 900,000 gallons of water were dumped from a Marin County tank after locks securing it were found cut, even though tests determined the water wasn't contaminated.
Water District General Manager Chris DeGabriele tells KTVU-TV that the Novato tank, which provides water to homes and a school, was taken offline after the cut locks were discovered six weeks ago.
Despite tests that revealed no contamination, the tank was drained into the storm drain system. DeGabriele said it was done as a health precaution.
Some residents questioned the decision to dump the water, while customers are being asked to conserve amid a drought.
Mike Holland said he'd be fine drinking the water if it had been tested.
His neighbor Kathy Leham said the water should have been used for other purposes other than drinking.
