Authorities say four people have drowned in a canoeing accident while attending a family gathering at a resort in East Texas.

Texas Parks and Wildlife spokesman Steve Lightfoot says a search began Sunday afternoon after an employee at the Crockett Family Resort became concerned that the four didn't return a rented canoe on time.

Three of the bodies were pulled from Houston County Lake on Sunday, the fourth on Monday.

The victims are identified as: 49-year-old Antonio Gutierrez; 47-year-old Amy Mendez; 6-year-old Sebastian Chavez; and Juan Cantu, whose exact age was not disclosed.

Lightfoot said the cause of their deaths is not known but that foul play is not suspected.

Crockett is about 110 miles east of Waco.
