Authorities say three people are dead after a head-on accident involving a public school van and a pickup truck in rural Nebraska.

The accident happened Friday afternoon on state Highway 2 just west of Ansley, a small town about 160 miles west of Lincoln.

Capt. Jim Parish of the Nebraska State Patrol says both drivers and a passenger in the van died. Their names and ages haven't been released.

Parish says the van belongs to the Broken Bow Public Schools system and was taking students on a field trip. The patrol says the accident happened when the eastbound pickup crossed the centerline and hit the westbound van.

Parish says the nine other van passengers were students. He says their injuries didn't appear life-threatening.
