Authorities say two people are dead after their small plane crashed into a house in North Carolina.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says both people aboard the aircraft were killed Wednesday when it struck a house in High Point. She says the plane was flying in the state from Wilmington to Winston-Salem when it was diverted by bad weather.

Bergen says the plane crashed in an area short of the runway at Piedmont Triad International Airport. Neighbors told The Associated Press the home's residents fled out the front.
