PITTSBURGH – Ten Chinese citizens indicted last month in an alleged test-taking conspiracy involving U.S. college entrance exams are set to be arraigned before a Pittsburgh court.
The indictment says the suspects either took the tests on behalf of others or paid to have that done for them so they could obtain student visas.
The indictment says the alleged conspirators scammed college admission tests, such as the Scholastic Aptitude Test, or SAT.
Federal prosecutors say some students paid up to $6,000 to have others take the tests for them. Some of the defendants are alleged test-takers, including a 24-year-old from Pittsburgh, who allegedly flew to California to take the SAT for someone else.
