Why is there a treehouse in the middle of London?

A treehouse has popped up in central London that has many scratching their heads.

The 35-foot-high luxury dwelling is inspired by the Lion Sands Game Reserve treehouse in South Africa and was built to promote travel to South Africa.

The house is stilted on giant trunks and is supported by a greenery-clad base, made to resemble authentic accommodation found in the African plains.

Members of the public can go inside and even enter to win the chance to stay a night in the swanky perch.

The winner will get the chance to enjoy luxury accommodations, with its two bedrooms and African style decorations.   It also comes with a six-course private menu from chef Petrus Madutlela--a contestant in "Masterchef: The Professionals" in the U.K.

The cuisine is not for the feint of heart.  The menu includes dishes such as tempura meal worms with induja mayo, shaved ostrich biltong, braised terrine of crocodile and smoked goat fillet with chakalaka sauce.

Virgin Holidays worked with interior designer Hubert Zandberg to create the treehouse.

The house will be in place for one week and you can register their details at virginholidays.co.uk/dreambigger for a chance at an overnight stay in the treehouse. Visitors can take a tour from 11am to 6pm until Friday January 29 and it will be staffed around the clock by representatives from the tour operator, security and event organizers.
